DISCONNECTOR PURPOSE:
Disconnectors are mainly provided for the safety of the substation equipment and safety of the men working during maintenance and it is the heart of each substation
A disconnector is a switching device, provided with high air clearances when the isolator is kept in open for maintenance, as specified in IEC standards
GR POWER disconnectors are capable to meet the following:
- It safely caries continuously the normal current specified by customers under normal conditions.
- It is capable of withstanding Short circuit currents for specific time durations under abnormal conditions.
- It is capable of breaking the low currents during opening and closing of the contacts when there is no significant change in the voltage between terminals of the every pole
- These disconnectors are capable of making and breaking the specified currents during bus transfer according to the IEC standards
Mainly disconnectors are the safety device, used in substations gives visual air insulation clearances with interlocking devices to protect the engineers working for maintenance purposes.

GR power is having different type of disconnectors like Centre break (HCB), Double break (HDB), Vertical Break (VBD & KNEE), and Pantograph Disconnectors (PG)

Description of Disconnector and Types
Double Break Disconnector (HDB)
The Double Break Disconnectors consists of single rotating moving blade mounted on support insulator of the main base frame. And female type fixed contacts are mounted on the insulators either side of the centre rotating insulator. The moving blade contact rotates and makes and breaks from both fixed contacts accordingly.
Center Break Disconnector (HCB)
The centre Break Disconnectors consists of Female and Male type moving contact blades rotates clockwise and anti-clockwise respectively to the each other along with insulators mounted on main base frames with structure. This centre break disconnector contacts are breaking (opening) at the centre of the disconnector
Pantograph Disconnector (PG)
The pantograph Disconnectors consists of two arms coupled as scissor type as single unit. It is operated by a operating rod insulator mounted parallel to the support insulator. Scissor type arm is moving towards fixed contact mounted and hanging from the top bus conductor. This Pantograph disconnectors are used for high level transmission.
Knee Type Vertical Break Disconnectors (KNEE)
The vertical-break disconnector fixed on the operating side fixed insulator. Moving arm provided with knee type folding mechanism on each pole of the disconnector. Other side of the insulators, male contact is fitted. Vertical arm moves on the same axis of the base frame provided above the structures where support insulator is mounted. Moving arm is operated by operating rod insulator
Vertical Break Railway Disconnectors (VB)
This type of Disconnectors consists of vertical moving blades contacts connected with drive rod insulators. Female type fixed contacts mounted on provided in base frame. This is a 3 pole mechanically ganged disconnector breaks vertically from both fixed contacts and mainly used in by railways
